Early Summer update on our harvesting operations. LACC is pleased to inform you that your organization now has two full time suction harvesters operating. Last Monday, LACC launched the new harvester for its shake down testing. The new harvester performed very well. All harvesting components worked and a few in progress tweaks were made by our experienced crew lead by Dave Sanfason. Mid week found the outboard on the new boat not working too well. Our crew identified the problem quickly as gummed up carbs. Three carb kits were ordered and installed over the weekend. The boat was re-launched last evening and tested. Thankfully, that corrected the problem. The SS Arrowhead (LACC's original harvester) performed beautifuly and worked four days last week. We lost one day due to thunder and lightning storms.
We would like to thank all of the individuals who participated in getting this boat up and running on time. Without their dedication to LACC these major milestones could not be met.
As per my usual, I urge all members to reach out to their neighbors and please ask them to join LACC. As we move forward, our membership numbers need to increase to support all the necessary programs we run to contain and remediate milfoil. Please take it as a goal to get at least one neighbor to join this year.
Thanks to all members who re-newed their membership. If you haven't re-newed, please take the time to do so. If we don't take care of this problem, no one else will.

The flashboards have been repaired, however, the water is still going through the turbines/generator as mandated by FERC and DEP licenses to provide for the aquatic species on the other side of the dam. We all look forward to some rain to increase the flow of water into the lake. Remember if you cleaned your waterfront, please fill out the Volunteer Time Tracking form and send it to us. This counts towards volunteer hours and "in-kind" donatation needed for our Grant from the state! Click the link on the left of this page to access the form.

Clean Clean clean those beaches! We've got about 2 more weeks before the dam will be repaired and the water will be rising. Doing this qualifies as "hand harvesting" and you can fill out of volunteer tracking form, and help us get our "in kind" donations needed for the grant we received.
The second suction harvester is currently under construction. It is on track for being finished in time to start the season with her sister, the S.S. Arrowhead.
04-24-10 Ledgemere Dam Status
The level of the lake is still low, and the replacement flashboards have been ordered. As soon as the lake is at a safe level for the repairs to be made, they will made. The new owners of the dam have also stated they will continue to make the other repairs FERC had requested. Get those beaches clean!
04-08-10 Ledgemere Dam Status
The level of the lake is still low, and the flashboards are still down and the side gates are open. The boards cannot be replaced until the water stops flowing over the concrete section for the safety of the workers. We do not have any specific details yet, but keep checking back as we will post when we are notified.
Get out there and clean those beaches, waterfronts, and put in your docks while the water is down!
03 -16-10 Limerick Town Meeting
LACC is pleased to announce that the Town of Limerick voted to support LACC’s continuing fight against milfoil. Speaking on behalf of LACC at the March 6th annual town meeting, Mike Fitzpatrick described the Maine Milfoil Initiative and the requirement to raise forty thousand dollars in matching funds. Fitzpatrick responded to questions from town residents about LACC and the existing harvester. Overall the resident’s comments were supportive of LACC’s past efforts and were appreciated of our expanding program. When it was time to vote, overwhelming support was given to our request and the town allocated $3,000 for our efforts in 2010.
LACC would like to thank select persons Martha Hamilton, Howard Burnham and Kim Oliver for their support and also to the residents of the town for their generous contribution to our effort against milfoil. Additionally, the board would like to thank the many LACC members who attended the meeting and supported LACC.
